Je naše mesto tým čím bývalo ? Kde sú tie časy keď z mesta sršala krása ? V čom vlastne táto krása spočívala ? Dá sa naše mesto považovať ešte za akési "malebné miesto" , niečo čo nebolo narušené ?
Každý jeden máme na to istú odpoveď. naše odpovede sa líšia v závislosti od uhlu pohľadu, či našeho postavenia. Samozrejme jedni tvrdia, že výstavba je dôležitá pre rozvoj mesta, druhí sa ohradzujú tým, že sa zaberajú "zelené plochy". Samozrejme ani jedno tvrdenie podľa môjho skromného názoru nie je správne. Výstavba, rozvoj, rekonštrukcia - to sú potrebné nástroje na to, ako udržať mesto v chode, nezaspať na vavrínoch, a kráčať s dobou. Ale treba to za každú cenu ? Za cenu znehodnotenia historického jadra, necitlivého zásahu, ako do mesta - celku, tak aj do konkrétnych oblastí - napríklad "zelených plôch". Evidentne je tomu tak. Staviame kde chceme, čo chceme a aj ako chceme. Ja sa pýtam: prečo? Je to stavebným zákonom, vedením mesta alebo nami samotnými.

Ak však skutočne chceme mať z mesta len kopu rozhádzaných, nepasujúcich kociek z lega, tak nechajme to len tak ďalej plynúť. Snáď z toho vznikne niečo tak odporné, že mesto D. Kubín sa stane ikonou strašidla pre neposlušné deti ! Treba si uvedomiť, že Dolný Kubín, tak ako ho hlavne dospievajúca časť populácie nepozná, bolo kedysi jedhou dlhou ulicou, tiahnucou sa prakticky celým dnešným koridorom od Baniska až po žel. stanicu. To sa však v minulom storočí rázne zmenilo. Investície ako OFZ, ZVL a pod. spustili monzúnové obdobie dažďa a so štipkou socializmus začali vyrastať paneláky ako huby po daždi. No už vtedy malo mesto nejaký koncept ( k tomuto konceptu stále zhromaždujem informácie a dokumentáciu - je to však nesmierne náročné, preto treba vyčkať). No keď sa vyjasnilo, zrazu sa hubám prestalo dariť, prestali rásť, a metropola Oravy zaspala na vavrínoch. Dlho neprichádzali investície... prešlo pár rokov a v D. Kubíne medzičasom začali výstavby (Tesco, Lidl, Kubínske terasy, kruhový objazd, Zlatá jeseň, Aquarelax) a mesto dodnes nepredstavilo žiadnu architektonicko-urbanistickú víziu. Kvôli rýchlostnej ceste R3 nám viazne územný plán, a tak sa stavá čo chce, kde chce. Na mňa to pôsobí ako kopa plechu, skla a betónu. A to nevravím o hroznej doprave, parkovaní a podobne.
